York Ho!
We’re on a bit of a hiatus…yes, yes, again, we’ve done this twice already this year, but this one is a big one.
Drumroll please…
Vienna is going to grad school! In England! To study philosophy and ethics of AI at the University of York!
Moving is chaotic at the best of times, and moving abroad comes with its own additional set of logistical hurdles. It’s been all hands on deck over here for months now planning, prepping, and finally executing.
We officially left Virginia on 1 September, flying to New York City, where we spent a lovely few days (our new favorite restaurant is Zaytinya—check it out if you’re ever in the area!) before flying to London. We spent a few days in London as well, getting in some quality time at the magnificent British Museum, visiting the also magnificent Westminster Abbey, partaking of excellent food and beverages (as is our wont), and catching up with Michael’s cousin Candida.
On 7 September, we took the train from London up to York. We’ll all be based here for a bit to get Vienna moved in and acquainted with the area, with some sightseeing along the way.
This is a huge undertaking, so we haven’t had much time for Leaving a Clean Wake lately, but we promise we’re still here! We’re not sure exactly what the future holds for Leaving a Clean Wake, but we still have lots of ideas and interests to explore, so we’ll still be around. Vienna will for sure have a lot of thoughts during her master’s program—as mentioned in Evan’s guest post about AI, this is a fast-developing industry with a lot of ethical questions still to be discussed.
We hope you’ll stick around through this transition, and we’re very excited for wherever the future takes us! Thanks for coming along for the ride.
